NRAF Statement on the Ohio Redistricting Commission’s Failure to Adopt New State Legislative Maps
Washington, D.C. – Today, Marina Jenkins, the Director of Litigation and Policy for the National Redistricting Action Fund (NRAF), released the following statement in response to the Ohio Redistricting Commission’s failure to adopt new state legislative maps:
“The Republican Commissioners have no excuse for flatly refusing to do the necessary work to negotiate fair, bipartisan maps. They have been ordered not once, but twice by the state’s highest court to get this done, they were given clear guidelines, and they had perfectly reasonable maps submitted to them that they could have chosen. Yet, instead of doing their jobs, they did nothing. This is not what the Ohio Supreme Court ordered and is not what Ohioans expect or deserve. Drawing fair maps is not optional, it is required – full stop.”
