NRAF-Supported Voters Demand Answers from Ohio Redistricting Commission

Washington, D.C. – Today, Ohio voters supported by the National Redistricting Action Fund (NRAF) in Bennett v. Ohio Redistricting Commission submitted a motion to the Ohio Supreme Court, asking that the court require the Commission to explain why they failed to comply with the Court’s February 7 order, which struck down the Commission’s second set of state legislative maps and ordered it to draw compliant maps.

“Ohioans deserve to know why the Republican Commissioners refused to do their jobs and draw fair, compliant state legislative maps as ordered by the Ohio Supreme Court,” said Marina Jenkins, the Director of Litigation and Policy for the NRAF. “The court has twice provided explicit guidelines for the Commission to follow in order to draw new maps that were both technically compliant and also reflected the will of the people. This wasn’t an impossible task – the Bennett petitioners are demanding answers. We will not stop until fair maps are drawn as required by law.”
