Our Mission: A Representative Democracy

We are Redistricting Action, a grassroots movement powered by people who believe that our democracy works best when everyone has an equal voice.

In February 2019, President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder launched All On The Line, a campaign of the National Redistricting Action Fund that grew into a nationwide grassroots movement for fair maps and fair representation.

From the start, our movement has been about empowering local organizers to become redistricting experts: offering free, top-notch training, and helping activists make a difference in their communities.

And it worked. Volunteers across the country have testified at hearings, protested against unfair maps, and organized their neighbors to demand accountability from those in power. Together, we’ve built a people-powered movement that has changed the conversation on redistricting and made a real impact in the fight for fair representation.

Today, we’re in a new era of redistricting — one that doesn’t happen just once a decade. Extreme politicians are manipulating the process again and again to entrench their power and silence voters.

That’s why, in 2025, All On The Line became Redistricting Action — a name that captures both who we are and what this moment demands. Because redistricting isn’t just a policy fight — it’s an ongoing struggle for a representative democracy. 

We’re here to mobilize people to take action to ensure that our democracy is truly representative, and every voice is heard. We’re here to take action. To keep organizing. To make sure every map, in every state, truly represents the people.

That begins with fair maps and ensuring transparency in the redistricting process. When the lines that shape our democracy are drawn openly and honestly, we can elect leaders who reflect the people they serve, listen to their communities, and tackle the real challenges we face together.

This work isn’t easy, but it’s possible. We’ve seen what happens when everyday people rise up, organize, and demand a government that reflects our values and our vision for the future.

When we show up for one another, we move our democracy forward.

In states across the country, we supported the creation of independent redistricting commissions to make map drawing fair, trained thousands of volunteers on the ins and outs of their state’s redistricting process, and empowered citizens to testify in favor of fair maps.
