Eric Holder Statement on Federal Court Decision Regarding Ohio Redistricting
Washington, D.C. – Today, Eric H. Holder, Jr., the 82nd Attorney General of the United States, issued the following statement in response to a federal three-judge panel’s decision regarding Ohio’s state legislative districts:
“The federal court has illogically and dangerously given its blessing to gerrymandered maps that were declared unconstitutional and invalid by the Ohio Supreme Court. These kinds of actions put the legitimacy of the federal judicial system into question. If Republican Commissioners continue their partisan hijack of democracy, the federal courts should not be complicit in those actions. A dangerous precedent is being set that the will of the people, a constitutional mandate, and Supreme Court rulings cannot stand in the way of the Republican Party’s reckless pursuit of illegitimate political power.”
